Company Profile

What's in a name?

The Bay Advanced Technologies Ltd (BAT) name evolved from the very close relationship that exists between KASPA (Kay's Advanced Spatial Perception Aid) ultrasonic technology and the bat's ability to 'see with sound'.

What is BAT?

BAT is a leading R & D company specializing in designing products, based on its KASPA sonar technology, to assist the Blind and Visually Impaired, and for industrial applications. The technology provides the Visually Impaired with independence and freedom, which has been denied them by their condition. With the help of the sophisticated KASPA technology their spatial awareness is increased dramatically, which is very important for rehabilitation. It means that they now have an elevated awareness of their surrounding environment, which enables them to travel far more comfortably, confidently and safely. KASPA technology is therefore a critical tool in making it easier for the visually impaired to pursue their educational and career goals.

Primary interest

BAT's primary aim is to help the blind to move about independently. This focus is under continual development and has involved engineers and psychologists from universities and research organizations. Engineers are device-oriented while psychologists are more interested in how humans use such devices. BAT has been unique in fusing these two approaches to create appropriate devices in usable forms.

Award-winners

KASPA technology of BAT received the Saatchi & Saatchi Global "Innovation in Communication Award" in October 1998, meeting the criterion "the innovation which most meets the needs of the most people".

BAT K-Sonar Testimonials

I have been really pleased with the K Sonar unit. Every time I use it, it's like a new experience all over again. Because each time, there is always something new to explore and learn about. Like many of us on this list, having never seen, this is really a fascinating device and it really does work and I must say rather well. I sure wish Dr. Kay and the APH the best with this project, because it really does work, of that I have no doubt.
